Sheffield Glass : About us

About Sheffield GlassSheffield Glass is the longest established independent Glass Merchant & Glazing Contractor in South Yorkshire. Sheffield Glass was established in 1975 by Kit Milne, who is still running the business after more than thirty six years.

Sheffield Glass came into being due to the need for frequent and reliable deliveries of cut-to-size glass for picture frames - (Kit was a bespoke picture frame maker for several years in the early seventies). The company rapidly became a major local glass supplier to the building trade and within a few years expanded to four branches in Sheffield - Ecclesall, Abbeydale, Walkley & Crookes. By 1982, with the business continuing to grow, larger premises were needed. A 6200 square feet factory unit at Sheaf Gardens, St. Mary's Road was purchased and this became our home for almost thirty years. We moved to our new premises at Broadfield Road in October 2010. Sheffield Glass prides itself in having the most experienced and longest serving glaziers and glass cutters / processors in the region - all of whom are directly employed. We use no sub-contract labour. We know and trust the people we employ to represent our company and guarantee full satisfaction with our work.

In recent years, several very long serving members of staff have retired - Linda Lomas after nearly thirty three years - and today we have a more youthful team. That said, our General Manager David Turton, without question the most experienced and professional glazier in the city and Senior Glazier Shaun Sanderson have clocked up more than fifty years between them - each starting as apprentices straight from school. Their experience has been passed on to the younger members of staff who are all fully trained glaziers.

We have often been told that the fact that we have had such loyal and long serving staff says quite a lot about the sort of company and employer that we are.
